Club Penguin Information

Read Jenny Achuthan's research into Club Penguin below via a letter she wrote them and their response. ~Thanks for sharing Jenny.

I'm a parent trying to decide if Club Penguin is appropriate for my child. Could you direct me to where the rule are described on your site, particularly where the guidelines for appropriate and inappropriate communication would be described. Thanks Jenny

Here was their response:
Hello, Thank you for your email. First, I would like to assure you that your children's safety is our number one priority. Club Penguin was created in a response to the growing concern that there were very few, if any, sites where kids could interact with each other. That said, we have taken great steps towards making sure that even if there are '50 year old' people on the site, they could do very little damage. We have incredible word filters that not only block inappropriate words from being seen but also checks for combinations of numbers, incorrectly spelled bad words and even 'pig-latin.' We also have full teams of fully trained Moderators who review reports made by penguins, interact with penguins online and respond to letters such as this. Although there is an inherent risk of communicating online, we have taken every step possible to make it as difficult as possible for anything inappropriate to happen. Studies show that anyone wanting to bring harm to children will look for the easiest route, we are certainly leading the way in child safety and feel confident in our safety measures. Of course, there is no substitute for parents teaching their children about online safety and we love to hear from parents with any suggestions on how we could do better. There are three simple rules to Club Penguin. They are: 1) Respect other penguins - this means No swearing, making fun of others or being mean. 2) Never reveal your personal information - this includes real name, address, phone number, or password. 3) No inappropriate talk - this means not talking about drugs, alcohol, or other related activities, including sexual references. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please feel free to email us.
Sincerely,
David
