Our daughter actually signed up for Club Penguin about a month ago (the free membership). She has, more or less, lost interest in it. Some of her USM friends are on Club Pengiun, and she's more interested in finding them than talking to the other kids. She prefers to play the games in Club Pengiun than network with the other birds.
Two things of note that we're particular about:
1. Whenever she needs to create a screen name, she is not allowed to use her name or any version of her name.
2. This is not in regards to Club Pengiun, but I recommend periodically reviewed web sites that you think are okay for your child. Our daughter has gone to barbie.com off and on for quite awhile. We have had big discussions with her about chat rooms and she's not allowed in them. One time, when I was checking on her and asked her what she was doing, she said, "I'm talking to Barbie and Ken." As a second grader, she thought it was just a new function where she was just talking to the characters, but I was watching the comments scroll down and saw this...KEN: R U Freaky?
What irritates me is that barbie.com added a chat room of some sort on a formerly relatively benign site.
